We Ran the Exit Velocity Test Again… Here’s What We Found

Baseball has entered an era where nearly everything can be measured. Players train with sensors, cameras, and swing labs designed to squeeze out every ounce of performance.

One thing that rarely gets tested in the same way is the equipment connecting the athlete to the ground.

SQAIRZ recently conducted a performance evaluation examining how specialized baseball footwear affects hitting power. The study focused on one of the most important metrics in the modern game: exit velocity.

The goal was straightforward. Measure hitters in their normal cleats from major athletic brands. Then repeat the same hitting rounds wearing SQAIRZ.

The only variable was the footwear.

What the Exit Velocity Testing Revealed

The evaluation included elite baseball players currently wearing cleats from several major footwear brands. Each player completed multiple hitting rounds to establish an average exit velocity baseline in their own cleats before repeating the same swings wearing SQAIRZ.

Across the group, most hitters recorded higher average exit velocity once they switched footwear.

Below is a snapshot of the results from the testing group.

The largest gain came from Player 1 whose average exit velocity increased by more than 13 mph during testing.

Even players already producing elite contact speeds experienced measurable improvements. Player 6 increased his already high baseline average from 92.83 mph to 96.80 mph.

Why Cleats Can Influence Exit Velocity

A baseball swing starts long before the bat enters the hitting zone. Energy begins at the ground as the hitter loads into the back side and drives forward through the lower body.

Force travels upward through the legs, hips, and torso before transferring into the bat.

When the foot moves inside the shoe or the platform shifts against the ground, some of that energy disappears before it reaches the barrel. In biomechanics terms, this is known as a power leak within the kinetic chain.

The testing suggested that footwear designed to improve ground connection allows hitters to brace more effectively during the swing sequence. Better stability improves the efficiency of energy transfer and more efficient energy transfer produces harder contact.

What Makes the SQAIRZ GFP™ Platform So Great?

The performance improvements seen in the study align directly with the design philosophy behind the SQAIRZ GFP™.

Patented Roomier Toe Box

The SQAIRZ toe box allows all five toes to engage naturally with the ground.

Independent testing has shown:

• 21% better balance
• 18% more ground force production

That added stability helps hitters stay balanced through the load and transfer force more efficiently during the swing.

SmartTraction™ Outsole

The SmartTraction™ system uses strategically placed traction elements designed specifically for baseball movement patterns.

Players benefit from reliable grip across turf fields, indoor facilities, and training environments while maintaining the comfort and mobility of an athletic training shoe.

Heel-to-Arch Stabilizer

The stabilizer structure runs through the length of the shoe to help resist twisting during explosive movement.

The result is a more stable platform during hitting, pitching, and lateral movement.

Athletes stay connected to the ground longer and lose less energy during movement.

Sta-Put™ Lacing System

Silicone grip zones integrated into the laces help keep the shoe locked in place.

Players tie their laces once and focus on the game instead of adjusting their footwear between innings.

Designed for Players. Trusted by Parents.

Travel ball schedules and showcase seasons place enormous stress on equipment. Shoes must handle constant training, tournament play, and long practice sessions. The GFP™ platform was built to keep up with that workload.

The reinforced outsole holds up through heavy use while maintaining the comfort players expect from modern athletic footwear.

Every SQAIRZ baseball cleat is also reviewed and approved by the SQAIRZ Medical Board of Advisors, ensuring the design supports both performance and safe movement for developing athletes.

A Biomechanical Approach to Baseball Footwear

SQAIRZ baseball shoes were created with one goal: improve how athletes interact with the ground.

Independent testing has also shown:

Average +3.5 MPH increase in exit velocity when switching from major brands
• Improved balance scores by up to 60% in swing diagnostics
• 5-yard sprint improvements of up to .38 seconds
• Pitchers increasing throwing velocity by 1.8 MPH

These findings led to a broader conclusion.

SQAIRZ created the first biomechanically corrective baseball and softball shoe platform designed to improve how athletes move and produce power.

The Foundation of Performance

Most discussions about hitting performance focus on bats, swing mechanics, or strength training. The research suggests the foundation matters just as much. Every swing begins with ground interaction and strengthening that connection changes how efficiently the body produces power.

Now it’s your turn to experience the difference.
