Damon Krause — The Power of Quiet Confidence

Damon Krause doesn’t chase distance. He doesn’t buy into trends. He’s built his game—and his reputation on something more durable: consistency, grit, and control.

Growing up in Los Angeles, Damon’s earliest golf memories are of tagging along with his dad, hanging out on the practice green while his father played rounds with friends. He was given a cut-down putter and a chipped-up wedge, tools that introduced him to the game’s challenges and its quiet rewards. By the time he was 11, Damon had committed to the game and never looked back.

“I love that golf lets you compete by yourself or with others, but you’re always playing against your own past,” Damon shared. “You don’t need a crowd or an opponent. You bring the challenge with you every round.”

That mindset—steady, methodical, quietly aggressive—has carried him through decades of competitive play. Damon describes his style as “boring” with a smirk, but anyone who’s seen him take on a risky approach shot knows better. He’s patient until the moment calls for precision. Then he trusts his swing.

His proudest moment? Qualifying for the 2018 U.S. Amateur, grinding through 36 holes in the brutal 106-degree desert heat—walking and carrying his own bag the entire way. Damon birdied the 17th, chipped in for eagle on the 18th, and fought through two playoff holes to earn his spot. It was a day that tested every part of his game—and his footing.

From Old-School Metal Spikes to Next-Level Stability

Footing is something Damon respects. He grew up in metal spikes, the era where you changed shoes the second you left the course. That old-school sense of connection to the ground never left him—and it’s exactly what he demands from his footwear today.

When Damon switched to SQAIRZ, he was looking to recapture that grounded, locked-in feel. “I was wearing Ecco for years, but the newer models just went soft,” Damon shared. “They felt squishy. The materials weren’t the same. One round in the morning dew and I had permanent stains. That was it. I needed something better.”

SQAIRZ delivered exactly what he’d been missing. “The first time I put them on, I felt locked in—stable, firm, with none of that mushy feel. And every pair since has gotten lighter and even more comfortable, but without giving up that foundation,” he said.

Damon now rotates between the Pro S2 LT in White & Navy and the VELO LT-X in Black, relying on them not just for competitive rounds but for everyday comfort. “I put them on at home, drive to the course, walk 18, and sometimes I’ll still have them on when I stop at the store afterward. That says everything about how they feel.”

Ground Connection = Confidence

For Damon, shoes are the most important tool. They give him the confidence to go after aggressive shots knowing his base is solid, even on uneven lies or slick greens.

“It’s about trusting your feet as much as your swing,” he said. “Good shoes let you go at it without thinking about balance. You stay connected to the ground. You stay in control.

Damon’s Advice to Golfers: Train Smarter, Not Harder

Damon’s advice for golfers looking to improve is as steady as his game: practice with purpose. “It’s easy to stand on the range and just blast balls. That doesn’t make you better. Focus on what you’re working on. Do it the right way, and you’ll save time and get better faster.”

For Damon, the right tools—including his shoes—are part of that focus. His SQAIRZ give him the stable platform he trusts to play aggressive, stay balanced, and walk off the course feeling strong, no matter the conditions.
